Organization. Friends and Interns. Partnerships. Passive Income.
We commit to being completely honest here. In the beginning, managing your business won't come easy. However, when you start to build up your clientele, you will definitely be able to breathe. Until then, roll up your sleeves, get use to counting down from 10, and stay organized!
Organization
The only way to manage any business easily is to have #organization. The best way to create this is to have folders on your phone, iPad or tablet, computer and in person for your business. If you have multiple businesses you will need separate folders for each one. Make sure that you keep everything labeled and filed away so that it is easy to return back to it. The more organized you stay the easier it is for everyone that onboards to follow suit.
Also, consider having a #company policy, confidentiality agreement, and onboarding/hiring packet for all that join your team.
Friends & Interns
When you first start your business, you may not have enough people to start hiring off the rip, however, you do have friends and interns that want to be involved and build their names up to. Have those very individuals join your team and reap from their contribution. I have a few friends that have desired to work with me on projects, and even though I won't allow for everyone to work with me, I have one woman that owns her own business, that I am happy to say is apart of my team. Donna is our #projectmanager and #marketingdirector and I absolutely love her because even when I wasn't ready for her help, she was ready! Donna hosts events for #Habanoscigarlounge in #Atlanta and shines her light all through the city. Building and maintaining relationships everywhere, she connected me with another beautiful spirit, Jennifer, whom has worked with a few former elected political officials. Jennifer will be working with us to build up our #communityoutreach #partnerships, and #brandambassadors. People such as these two, are Gods gift to you to accomplish what has been assigned to you and I am grateful.
This is just one way a friend can help. Another way is by having your friends tell their friends, family, associates, and colleagues about your business, #events, and more. One way to put money in their pockets for their contribution is to have them join your #affiliateprogram. I love how Eventbrite has incorporated this, making it so easy to calculate their contribution and pay them. Another way is to have a referral program and payout all of those that send people to your business. You can do this simply by setting the minimum that someone has to spend with you and the dollar amount you're going to give to each referrer when a sale is made. Referrals codes help with this process and #Paypal can have you pay them in 1, 2, 3, steps!
As for #interns, I have connected with my former school and asked them about submitting internship information to them so that we are able to have interns. You can do this with local universities, community colleges, or tech schools. I would advise you to begin with the school(s) you have attended, first, though. Interns need the experience so that they are prepared for the opportunities that come their way when they graduate from school. There's nothing better than a college student that has experience. I have worked with a few interns in the past and the pros of the experience were that they were eager to learn, needed the opportunity so they took it serious, and they were open and positive. The hiccup was that they did not know as much as I needed them to know to get the job done on their own, so my experienced individuals had to be willing to invest time and energy into them, which everyone isn't willing to do. Thankfully, I had a team that was, but that's not the case for all so make sure you make a note of that when you are searching for your beloveds.
Once they onboard, get them working. No intern wants to wait until you have things lined up. They want to come in the door and have projects ready for them. When I first begin, even though I had projects lined up, I wasn't organized. My life was falling apart right beneath me and there was nothing I could do about it. I had just begin with my interviews and I was in school full time. Nila's biological father had decided the best thing for him to do was to move to California. I wasn't fighting him on it, I just knew that God had placed a holdstrong on me in Atlanta, so that is where Nila and I remained. After 7 to 8 months of struggling between no job, getting a job, and quitting at #FedEx, I decided it was time to focus on my business again, so I did. It was just me in the beginning, but now we are expanding and it feels very good!
Partnerships
Believe it or not, partnerships are your best friend! It allows you to divide the cost, work, and organization for the different opportunities that come up. The hardest part regarding partnerships is deciding who to partner with. You want to make sure that there won't be any conflict that comes about when you partner with individuals and businesses. Outside of that, shoot your shot and see what you can make of it!
Passive Income
When deciding to write this blog post I wanted to be sure that I shared with you all a tactic that would allow for business management to become something you enjoy doing. I believe that passive income is one of those thing that will have us all excited about our management processes. When creating a stream of income that is passive income it is more so about being organized. You can easily have 5 companies pay you at one time when you decide to have passive income. This then allows for you to invest your time, creative, and energy into more revenue producing activities. We'll share some passive income examples, soon, but in the meantime get organized and bring some people onboard to assist you with building your empire!
